New IRPC 1.5 & 1.15 2023 Amendments: What Illinois Lawyers Should Know

Program Description:
On March 1, 2023, Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court announced amendments to Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct 1.5 and 1.15. The amendments to the Rules are intended to address existing issues between the legal needs of the public and the lawyers who could serve them in a clear and straightforward way. The amendments are effective July 1, 2023. This e-learning program is designed to familiarize Illinois attorneys with the changes to these two Rules. The program will teach attorneys about the purpose behind the changes, as well as discuss and inform practitioners on the most substantive changes, including how changes make the language of the Rules clearer and modernized in order to keep up with technology. This program will also address the detailed directions for record-keeping and communication with clients regarding fees that are included in the new amendments.

Program Objectives:
  • To increase the lawyer's awareness of the 2023 amendments to Rules of Professional Conduct 1.5 & 1.15
  • To provide the lawyer with information on these new Rule amendments
  • To help lawyers understand the differences and changes presented by these amendments
